Happy New Year!

Hi Blogland,

So, many exciting things have happened here at Stagnant Gypsy headquarters since our last post:

1) We moved! Stagnant Gypsy has moved out of a stuffy basement suite into a cute three bedroom character home, complete with a studio! Nevermind that the studio is overflowing with boxes and random yarn… I really do believe that having a designated crafting space that is filled with lots of  natural light and (weather permitting) a lovely connecting balcony will translate into making great things over the next few months. We have both taken an interest in felting so that, combined with my newfound ability to knit in the round (even with scary dpns!) means exciting new things will be a brewing.

2) We both had birthdays! Our combined age is now…um…53. Well, lets just leave it at that

3) We bought some plants! Two little rosemary plants, a big palm tree esque plant whose name will follow, Ted the succulent and Fred the cactus. We have also started growing sprouts in a sprout grower thingy which is super exciting. T also has some bulbs growing in a pot…but as I am the black thumb of the gypsy team, I have no idea what they are. They grow like crazy though! Pictures to follow.

We also acquired some new yarn over the past few months, some of which is currently posted in the shop. Some has yet to be knitted into dishcloths and the like, but we hope that you enjoy the new and upcoming sets as much as we do.

And, an oldie but a goodie, our Rainbow Heart Scrubbies:

So, we’ve been really really bad at blogging this year. I could come up with a bunch of excuses (hey, both of us being at the tail end of our undergrads is a good one, no?) but the point is, we’re back!

As another holiday season approaches, we’ve begun to relist some of our favourite and best selling items in the shop:

Introducing our new Harry Potter Dishcloth series (pictured: Gryffindor Eco Friendly Dishcloths – Set of 3)

 Rainbow Mini Heart Shaped Scrubbies

Cassette Mixed Tape 1″ Buttons

Don’t forget to check out our Facebook and Twitter pages for updates on new listings, findings and other tidbits of information.

New Goodies

So…I may have gone to the fabric store….

Keep an eye out for new brooches in the shop!

Saturday Snapshots – High in the Sky

Taken when we were flying to (from?) San Francisco, Feb. 2008

A few weeks ago, Stagnant Gypsy joined Etsypreneur, a network where people who sell on Etsy can get together and share ideas, links, and support. Since we have joined, membership has trippled! Although I think there are a lot of kinks and bumps to sort out yet, Etsypreneur has been a wonderful resource and I can definately see its future potential.

One of my favourite features is the galleries – a place where members’ etsy minis are featured according to what category they sell in. Here, members or guests can browse a variety of sellers and compare ideas, prices, and potentially do some great shopping! Since it is a new feature, there are only 5 categories but they plan to add some more.

My T-shirt Yarn (Mis)adventure

I’ve been wanting to experiment with t-shirt yarn for a while, but hadn’t gotten around to it until this evening. I’ve browsed other shops that make/carry it, watched tutorials on youtube, and brainstormed ideas for what we would make from it…but was reluctant to pick up the scissors.

At first I found it hard to cut in a straight line, but I’m sure a lot of that had to do with patience. It evened out after I went along. Half way through the shirt, I accidentally cut through my long rope of yarn so I decided to knit it up quickly into a dryer sheet. I was going to test the dryer sheet in my next load of laundry until I realized little fluffs of cotton began shedding off of the yarn as I knit away.

I’m assuming this has to do with how the fabric is made? The videos I watched also said that you could kind of curl the yarn (or it would spring back into a curl somehow) after cutting it, but this kind never did. Maybe there is just no elasticity left in the fabric. Nevertheless, I will have to try again with a different type of tshirt in the near future. I’d like to start making some upcycled merch for the shop before things get super busy.

Until then, it’s back to dishcloths!

500th Fan

To thank Leslie for being our 500th Facebook fan, we have decided to feature her shop Gracie Bug Boutique on our blog! Gracie Bug Boutique features gorgeous accessories for girls, handmade by Leslie.  Currently, on her FB page, Leslie reminds customers that October 15th is the last day for Halloween tutu’s! Better get shopping! Here is what Leslie had to say:

1) What is your name and where can we find your merchandise online?

Leslie Harris of Gracie Bug Boutique. I can be found on Etsy at and Facebook at

2) How long have you been crafting for?

I have been crafting for as long as I can remember, but I didn’t discover Etsy until July of this year. I was so blessed to meet a few local girls that have mentored me and patiently answered ALL my questions ! 🙂 I am a Mom of two with a full time job outside of the home. Creating and Crafting is my outlet! Its the “ME” time in the day!

3) Tell us about the items in our shop.

I love creating handmade accessories, hair bows, flowers, headbands and my daughters favorite thing big fluffy tutus!

4) What inspires you?

I draw a lot of inspiration from my children and friends. Gracie Bug Boutique wouldn’t exist with out my Gracie (Bug). I really enjoy making custom pieces, it is so much fun for me to take a customer or friends request and turn it into reality!

5) What are some other online artisan shops you enjoy?

Just be Happy makes some of the cutest crocheted hats and toys I have ever seen! – I also love Jayme of Lillipops style and designs. There are so many amazing artists out there right now I find new things to love every day!

Thanks Leslie for answering our questions, and thanks to all of you who have helped us reach our milestone of 500 fans. Don’t forget to enter our 500th fan give away right here on our blog, contest ends Saturday October 16th!
